When considering the tapestry series Women In the Bible, I felt that I must begin with the miraculous story of ESTHER. Purim—the Jewish holiday which celebrates this Bible story—is filled with vibrant color and a dynamic reminiscent of Carnival.
One sees in Esther so many admirable qualities—bravery, leadership, self-confidence, grace, and intelligence. Additionally, seen from the perspective of the challenges women today seek to overcome, we can see that she gained autonomy over the king, which speaks to the ever-growing economic and cultural independence of women in today’s world.
The colorful tapestry depicts the Biblical scene of the royal feast. The central figure—a gracious Queen Esther—stands alone in the center of glorious riches. Her posture is boldly upright, showing her determination to overcome her fears and rise to the critical importance of her mission.
