SERIES: WOMEN IN THE BIBLE: THE HEROINES AND THE HARASSED
Title: Dinah
Size: 1.23m x 1.70m (48in x 67in)
Design for a tapestry
In this shocking story of rape, revenge, and death, the drama is depicted as gusts of wind—maddened storms that carry the powerful emotions one feels on Dinah’s behalf.
Dinah’s story is a multi-level tragedy: to the left of the tapestry one finds a loathsome creature representing the rapist, followed by a compact mass — Dinah’s brothers; and on the right we see Dinah — traumatized. She views the entire scene as from afar, as if she does not belong to it. Her clothes are torn, and she appears indifferent. It is not clear if she is crying or shouting silently because throughout the entire story Dinah is silent.
