Soon after arriving with my family in Israel a man, seeing one of my tapestries, exclaimed “this is from the Bible”. I was so moved by this emotional connection to the artwork that it I soon began to look deeper in that “classical” direction for my own inspiration – and I have never turned back.
I have come to truly love the Bible. I am constantly finding new meaning in each story. The various characters and situations compel me to take the emotion I feel and create artistically. Often I identify personally with the characters and their dilemmas – they remind me of situations from my own personal life or that of someone close to me. Living in Israel one sees how important this book is to so many and in so many different ways. Our daily life is connected to the Bible, everything from the judicial system through medicine and ethics to poetry and literature. Children return from school and relate what they are learning.
Having settled in the land of the Bible and having absorbed its sights and colors has helped me to re-experience the stories which I have known since childhood. All those images and topics that were lying dormant at the back of my mind have now come alive on my loom.
