Wings Like A Dove

I mourn in my complaint

Psalms 55:2

Because of the voice of the enemy

Psalms 55:3

My heart is convulsed within me…

Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away

…and remain in the desert

An atmosphere of war is reflected in the cold, restrained anger of the dove’s figure. In contrast is the soft, colored desert, like an unreachable dream, a shelter from war. Despite the sweet colors, the desert holds a harsh structure, as if the dream would be hard to accomplish in reality.
