Serah Bat Asher–a living legend over many generations

Series: WOMEN IN THE BIBLE: SERAH BAT ASHER TRIPTYCH
Title: Serah’s Legend
Size: 1.50m x 1.80m (59in x 71in)

While in the first two tapestries of the Serah Bat Asher triptych the images express restrained emotion through soft forms and are exalted by sweet colors, in this, the third part of the triptych, I try to recreate the importance and drama of Serah’s legend by using colors both intense and bright.
The scene in Serah’s Legend reads like a summary of her most unbelievable stories and legends. The angels that Serah sees gathering to watch the Israelites cross the Reed Sea as they flee from Pharoah’s legendary pursuit seem to have generated the illusion of mirrors. It appears as though a huge number of Israelites are fleeing—trapped in a world of colliding lights and wings, and infinite space.
Parallel to this are the images of the legend of the big fire in which Serah died and the chariot that took her to heaven, where she eternally flies, blanketed with light and softness, wandering the world.
