Ambiguous characters depicted with minimal details surround the distressed figure of Jacob; they are fearful of his reaction at learning that his son Joseph is alive. In Serah Breaks the News to Jacob, Serah, a young girl, stands out among them. Despite her youth, her strong presence is expressed by virtue of goodness and wisdom. The harp she plays and her singing fill earth and sky with sweet colors, but they do not hide the drama of the scene; Jacob, either blessing or cursing(?) her, foretells that Serah will live longer than anyone else.
